A number of good questions were asked by parents last year and are worth addressing here for general information.
Q. How are players placed on teams?
A. In the beginning process most all vetern volunteer coaches ask for the same
kids that they had last year. As the registration forms come in we place that
player with the coach they had last year.
Many parents do request a certain coach and we try to honor that request
if we can. There are often needs expressed that two players be placed on
the same team in order to facilitate transportation to and from
practice. Again, we try to accomidate the request when possible.
Once the players are matched with the coaches they had last year and the
request for certain coaches are approved and the two players on the same
team quest is honored, we talley the number of players on each team. The
remaining registration forms are divided by 3/4 grade boys, 3/4 girls and 5/6
boys and 5/6 girls. The number of players in each catagory is talled to
determine how many teams we will need in order to create teams with a
reasonable number of players. What constitutes reasonable is subject to
debate. The commissioner has determined that their needs to be a
minimum of 5 player to qualify as a team and that 10 players to a team
would make the optimum team with 12 players being a maximum number of
players on a team. In some cases, there will be more than 12 players on
a team. Reasons for this include the lack of coaches or the lack of practice
facilities.
Q. Is a players skill level considered when being placed on a team?
A. players skilll level are not a factor when being placed on a team as that is usually
not known by the commissioner who does the placment of players.
Each year parents and coaches are reminded that goal of the Coquille Basketball
Club ia not to field winning teams, it is to provide each player with the opprotunity to
develop personal skills, learn to work as a member of a team, and to have fun.
Q. What happens to players if they submit their registration after the due date?
A. There are many things that need to happen before we start pactice and many
things that have to happen before the first game day. Because of these things that
have to happen, we have to have a end date for registration. Some of the issues
Involved are as follows:
1. Experience shows that many swaps and player changes and additions are
made during the first week of pactice, These changes must be approved by
the commissioner and a new team roster has to be confimed before we can
move on to the next step.
2. Players that submit registrations after the due day are reviewed to see if there
is an opening on a team that has less that 12 players. If there are none, the
the player/parent may partition each coach for a spot on the team. The
coach has the right to not accept late registrations that take their team
over 12. This has a major impact on the team, its practice and the players
playing time in games.
3. Coaches must confirm final team roster and submit, their order for T-Shirts
with sizes so that they can be ordered, received and passed out to players
prior to the first game day.
4. Teams and Coaches must be identified and sent to Lisa Pinkely in Myrtle
Park so that she can develop the game schedule so that we participate with
Powers, Myrtle Poing, Port Orford, etc.
5. During this process, Coquille regs are recruited from the High School and
Middle School and they prepare to ref our games in Coquille.
6. In general, the disposition of the late registrations depend on how many
players have already signed up, the availability of coaches to field a new
team, and other circumstances that always seems to pop up.
